Last week was John's fall break and since I work the weekends, we were able to get away during the week for a spur of the moment camping trip! Our adventure started Wednesday morning, as we headed out for a couple days of hiking and sleeping under the stars. First stop on our road trip was the always delicious and comforting Cracker Barrel.
Yes, that is ALL just John's order. |
We finally made it to Hanging Rock State Park, which is about an hour north of Winston Salem, NC.
As soon as we picked out our perfect campsite, we began unloading all of our gear, and started assembling our new tent!
Pretty proud of this self-timer pic! |
Our cozy abode We then went on a short hike, and came back to start on making a fire. It took a little while, but John finally got a roaring toasty fire built that we enjoyed for several hours. |
Turkey/Cheddar Bratwursts for dinner :)
Then dessert!
The next morning, we set out bright and early for the most famous trail at the park - the Hanging Rock trail.
We made it to the top, and the view was amazing!! It was definitely a strenuous hike, but well worth it!
It was VERY windy, and I was holding on to John for dear life! |
The famous "Hanging Rock" |
After that hike, we found another trail that led us to some very pretty waterfalls. |
Pretty colorful leaves everywhere! |
John actually ended up climbing to the top of the waterfall, and having a somewhat difficult time finding a way back down..... |
Another waterfall and pool :) I wished it was a bit warmer so we could go for a dip! |
We packed up later that afternoon and headed back home! It was a WONDERFUL getaway, and we enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait until the next camping trip!
